PRAYAS FOUNDATION FOR SOCIAL RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
Prayas Foundation for Social Research & Development is a non-profit organization registered as a Trust under the Indian Trusts Act, committed to fostering inclusive and sustainable development across India’s most vulnerable regions. Established in 2018, the Foundation was formed with the objective of addressing deep-rooted social, economic, and developmental challenges faced by marginalized communities through a combination of grassroots action, research-driven planning, and capacity-building initiatives.
Since its inception, Prayas Foundation has been working to improve the quality of life of disadvantaged populations, particularly tribal communities, rural households, women, children, and economically weaker sections of society. The organization adopts an integrated development approach, recognizing that social issues such as poverty, illiteracy, poor health, unemployment, and environmental degradation are interconnected and must be addressed holistically rather than in isolation.
The Foundation’s work spans tribal, rural, and underserved regions, with a strong operational presence in states such as Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and the North Eastern region of India. These areas are characterized by limited access to basic services, inadequate infrastructure, and socio-economic exclusion. Prayas Foundation designs and implements context-specific interventions that are responsive to local needs, culturally sensitive, and community-driven.
Prayas Foundation’s core programmatic focus areas include education, health and nutrition, sustainable livelihoods, women’s empowerment, environmental conservation, and social research & advocacy. In the education sector, the organization works to enhance access to quality learning opportunities for children and youth through academic support, digital literacy, and skill development initiatives. In health and nutrition, the Foundation emphasizes preventive care, awareness generation, and improved maternal and child health outcomes. Livelihood interventions aim to promote self-reliance through skill training, entrepreneurship development, and income-generating activities, particularly for youth and women.
A key strength of Prayas Foundation lies in its emphasis on social research and evidence-based programming. The organization undertakes baseline studies, needs assessments, and impact evaluations to inform program design and improve effectiveness. Policy-oriented research and documentation are also used to advocate for inclusive development policies and scalable solutions at local and regional levels.
Guided by the principles of community participation, transparency, accountability, and sustainability, Prayas Foundation works closely with local communities, government institutions, civil society organizations, and development partners. Through collaborative action and continuous learning, the Foundation strives to create long-term, measurable impact and contribute meaningfully to the broader goals of social justice, equity, and sustainable development.
